Marianne Winkler, a retired postal worker discovered a 108-year-old bottle at the beach in Germany last April. Because she is publicity shy, Winkler just recently shared what was inside.
After Winkler broke open the bottle, she found a note and a postcard. It had the address of the Marine Biological Association (MBA) in England. It asked the recipient to report when and where the bottle was found. The message was written in English, German, and Dutch.
It is thought to be the oldest message in a bottle. It was one of 1,020 bottles MBA’s then-president threw out to sea to study the ocean’s tides.
